Specialist Epilepsy Support Worker Job at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust with Visa SponsorshipJob overview: The Bexley ALD Epilepsy Team is a newly established service. The post holder will be expected to positively contribute towards the progression of the service.

  • The post holder will be a member of the Bexley ALD Epilepsy Service, working under the consultant and epilepsy specialist nurse.
  • They will provide specific skilled support to aid the epilepsy team in the assessment and management of adults with a learning disability and epilepsy.
  • They will also help support with epilepsy training to service providers and carers across the Bexley Borough.
  • The post holder will be expected to facilitate group work with clients and carers.
  • They will share a caseload with the epilepsy specialist nurse and will be expected to work unsupervised at times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings to support an individual’s epilepsy care and management.  
  • To attend local team meetings including attending referrals meetings as and when required.
  • To support the epilepsy specialist nurse in the delivery of epilepsy awareness training and emergency medication administration training to service providers, carers and staff.
  • Be computer literate and to be able to use the trusts record keeping system and use documents such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams etc.
  • To provide specialist support to clients with epilepsy related appointments when necessary.
  • Have a good understanding and awareness of the rights of clients and carers and assisting them in exercising those rights where appropriate.
  • To attend epilepsy clinics with the team consultant and epilepsy nurse for review of caseload.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent in experience.
  • Educated to GCSE level with a minimum of grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities.
  • Previous health service experience.
  • Previous experience of working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in an Epilepsy related role.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate organisational skills i.e diary management and booking appointments.
  • Able to prioritise and multitask.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Able to demonstrate prioritisation skills and deal with urgent queries and referrals.

Essential criteria
  • To be able to deal with complex and difficult situations that can arise.
  • To be able to demonstrate empathy and interpersonal skills.
