Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable significant experience post registration in a hospital-based post.
  • Previous significant experience of working with clinical IT systems.
  • Experience of working with clinicians and a proven track record for influencing change within a directorate or specialist role
  • Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists /pharmacy technicians
  • Broad clinical pharmacy or medicines management expertise and experience.
  • Experience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure
  • Experience interpreting and working with drug budgets and drug tariff.
  • Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. trainees / junior pharmacists / pharmacy technicians / other HCPs
  • Advanced use of Excel
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Business Objects
  • Advanced use of SQL to extract data from large complex databases.
  • Experience in Health Informatics ideally in a Business Analyst role

  • Be able to provide highly complex digital systems information and impart knowledge to all levels of healthcare professionals (up to and including senior consultants)
  • Able to analyse highly complex information relating to medicines and their uses.
  • Able to make sound judgments and act as a specialist for Pharmacy Digital System issues in the Trust.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of regulations and legislation relevant to digital systems
  • In depth knowledge of medicines administration processes and medicines management
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safe pharmacy practice including Medicines legislation and professional code of ethics.
  • Knowledge of national digital strategy for the NHS
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understands the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation.
  • Knowledge of Information Governance requirements
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MPharm (Pharmacist only) / BTEC level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Postgraduate/post-registration qualification in relevant area or equivalent experience.
  • Specialist higher qualification (Diploma) in IT or Clinical Pharmacy or a related area or a portfolio demonstrating equivalent through experience at senior level and relevant short courses taught at postgraduate level.
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist training in leadership
  • Specialist training in clinical informatics
