Business Analyst Job at HMRC – This role is within the Analysis Guild in the Chief Data and Information Office (CDIO), working across projects supporting Borders and Trade (B&T). Within CDIO, the Business Analysis professionals play an essential role in delivering high quality analysis using different methodologies and techniques to define technical requirements.
The Borders and Trade Delivery Group are responsible for the end-to-end service management and development of over 140 separate services, from the generation of Trade Statistics to the administration of Customs and Excise duties.
Job description
As a Business Analyst in the Analysis Guild in CDIO Borders and Trade, you will provide technical business analysis skills to support the delivery of change to Borders and Trade systems. Collaborating with colleagues across CDIO, you will define the requirements for technical systems and integrations required to meet the business needs.
You will lead the analysis on small to medium sized projects and support senior colleagues on larger, complex projects to deliver change to B&T systems.
The Technical Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in driving digital transformation within HMRC’s Borders and Trade business area.
You will sit within a multidisciplinary team collaborating with business stakeholders and BAs to understand the business needs and translate them into effective technical IT solutions.
The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, supporting the seamless delivery of impactful projects, products and programs.

Person specification
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate requirements gathering workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Elicit, document, and analyse technical requirements from stakeholders.
- Define acceptance criteria and support system testing activities.
- Develop detailed technical process models and documentation.
- Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to support the delivery of new systems and system changes.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and communications throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of business analysis practices and methodologies.
- There may also be opportunities for Line Management of junior staff.
Essential Criteria:
• Experience of Business Analysis or using analysis skills in a technical IT environment. 
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrable experience of business analysis tools and techniques, in particular process modelling and technical requirements elicitation.
Desirable Criteria:Â
• Knowledge of customs and trade regulations or related domains.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and tools including Jira and Confluence.
